

Clyde Dale Smith, 94, of Sacramento, California passed away on November 29, 2014. Dale is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy; son David; daughter, Diane and her husband Michael. Dale was born in Garland, Utah, to Clyde & Viola Smith on April 10, 1920. Dale worked many years for Hales and Weinstocks department stores where he retired in 1986 from his position of General Superintendent.
Dale is also survived by his grandchildren, Susan, Michael, Jennifer, Jessica, David and Lindsay and his great-grandchildren Kane and Emma. He is also survived by his brother, Wallace Smith of Millbrae, California.
Dale was a jet fighter pilot in World War II and was most proud of his service to his country in the United States Air Force, where he flew many missions and was a POW for 18 months prior to the end of the war. Known for his dry sense of humor, Dale loved golf, fishing and his Bay Area sports teams - especially the San Francisco Giants.
Funeral services including military honors will be held at Mt. Vernon Mortuary on Tuesday, December 9th, at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at a later date at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
