Eugene Joseph Witkowski, living in Fair Oaks CA for the last 40 years, passed away on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, just shy of his 90th birthday. Eugene, also known as Gene, was born December 6th, 1932 in Cicero, Illinois to the late Mary and Ignatious Witkowski.
Gene or "Geno" as his friends called him was a "Cool Cat" that loved the saxophone, dancing, his country and most of all loved his wife and family. He attended Catholic schools, was an altar boy and graduated from high school in a small town called Lemont, Illinois. Gene joined the USS Navy and faithfully served his country from 1954 to 1958 during the Korean War, where he was trained in flight avionics and served on aircraft carriers including the USS Hornet and USS Kearsarge. Gene's passion for electronics, computers and engineering paved the way for his lifelong career as an electronics engineer with G.E. and Honeywell.
Gene's sharp sense of humor and contagious laughter quickly engaged and entertained anyone and everyone he met. While working in Sacramento he met the love of his life, Donna. Married in 1965, they had 2 children, Audra and Ray. During their 57 years of marriage they moved many times for Gene's career which was a hardship at times but received the gift of meeting many wonderful people and having friends that became "friends for life".
Geno was a character. And until we meet again, we'll miss him, his timeless sense of humor and mostly his contagious laughter.
He was preceded by his siblings Joe, Regina and Ed and survived by wife Donna, daughter Audra, son Ray, daughter-in-law Jennifer and his granddaughters Emma and Brooke.
