Harold “Hare Bear” Norman passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92 on January 9, 2023. Harry was born on September 7, 1930 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, a place he has always referred to as “home” regardless of where he resided.
Harry will be truly missed by his loving wife of almost seventy years, Edna, and his children, Gary (Genice) Norman, Lori (Don) Kalisiak and Vicki (John) Hartigan. He has been reunited in Heaven with his daughter Pam Norman. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Wesley (Sara) Norman, Jacob Kalisiak, Shelby (Kyle) Golden, Ashley Hartigan and Seth Hartigan; great grandchildren: Wyatt Norman, Hunter Norman and Allie Norman; and siblings: Don (Grace) Norman, Barbara Trepanier, Lois Packard, Anne (Gary) Rochon, Lucille Edgar, and sister-in-law Karin Norman. He has been reunited in Heaven with his mother, Lillie Mae Norman, and brothers: Gordon (Mary) Norman, Mike (Carole) Norman and Bruce (Karin) Norman. Harry is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.
Harry dedicated his life to public service, serving in the Air Force for over twenty years with the honorable designation as a multi-war veteran, as well as working over twenty years as an Air Traffic Control Specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration. Other than his family, his proudest achievement was his volunteer work with Easter Seals helping disabled children with swimming, donating in excess of 1000 gallons of blood to the local blood bank, and most importantly his service as “Hare Bear the Clown”. Hare Bear dedicated at least one day a week to the Northern California Shriners Hospital for Children from its inception for more than twenty years, as well as participating in multiple parades, events and birthday parties, bringing a smile to the face of thousands of children and adults alike. Hare Bear also looked forward to being Santa Claus for events during the holiday season. Heaven has gained a very special person and Hare Bear has a very special place in the hearts of those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance, 533 W. Uwchlan Avenue, Downington, PA 19335 or www.curefa.org/memorials in remembrance of Harry “Hare Bear” Norman.
This site will be updated with Celebration of Life services once it has been established.
