Dad had an extensive career in the Air Force in food service, with travels that took him to England, where he met and married Mom in 1951; serving at military bases in Ohio, Illinois, South Dakota, California, and also a tour in Vietnam. He retired in 1968 from Mather A.F.B. and continued on with his food service management career in Civil Service when he retired in 1994. During that time, he also obtained an AA degree in Business.
Baseball was always a part of Dad's life. Growing up in Pennsylvania, he was a bat boy for Stan Musial when Stan was in the minors. He coached all three of his son's throughout the years and enjoyed watching all his grandsons play up until a few months ago.
As an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan he had many "buddies" including son James Jr., and would always take time to visit with a Steeler Fan!
Dad loved his country, family and friends, and always looked forward to the calls from England where our extended family lives and lovingly refers to Dad as "Our Jimmie".
Mom was the love of his life and he devoted his life to taking care of her, watching over and protecting her.
Our family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Warren Brandle, Anita and Staff for caring for our father for many years, treating not just the patient but the person, Jim Berwick.
To all of the Vitas Hospice team, thank you for the amazing care for our Dad and help to our family.
You will always be in our hearts Dad. Okie-Dokie
