James (Jim) Patrick Ellis Sr. passed away on March 6th, 2019, at the young age of 71. Although he had been battling numerous health conditions that complicated his life in the last year, we cannot completely rule out the cause of death as not being related to the Giants lack of a quality outfielder. The Bryce Harper saga lasted too long for all of us. In his opinion, Salt & Sugar are to be granted immunity, as they were lifelong companions with whom he had taken a break from over the past year. Agent Orange does NOT get a pass however. Nor would the Dodgers, had they won, but alas, thank you Boston & Houston.
Jim’s love of life was well known, so was his love of family, dogs, great food, baseball, his 2nd amendment rights, and Reyn Spooner shirts. Guy Fieri’s featured restaurant’s just lost a top customer, as did smash burger. And the place he ordered chocolate from. He was an avid reader, traveled the world with Irene and gave Clark W Griswold a run for his money at Christmas time a few years. (By the way, no give backs on last year’s Christmas presents everyone)
Jim was always good with the spoken tongue, he took pride in knowing people from all cultures, he knew how to cuss in many languages, including Vietnamese, and the English languages on both sides of the Atlantic. His final nine words were a perfect tribute to how he lived, full of vim and vigor, stubborn as a mule, yet ever relenting to the pushy broad he loved. Unfortunately for you all, most of those words aren’t suitable for Sunday print.
Although we know he has moved on to heaven, it is much too soon for his family. Jim will be greatly missed by many, leaving behind the love of his life, best friend, and wife of 45 years, Irene, son Jim Jr, daughter-in-law Cortleigh, 4 grandkids (Clara, Wyatt, Jameson, & Rory), pups Buster & Susie Q, along with all 4 MUCH older siblings Daralyn, Sheryl, John Jr, & Candy (by the way, Irene is keeping the cookie jar!), and many extended family members he cared deeply for, as well as many close friends from all walks of life, He loved all of you: The gutter-clubbers, Security Pacific Real Estate, baseball buds, Santa Cruz friends, Nick and Vinny… to all his fellow Vietnam Vets, Welcome Home. He also left behind about 10000 light bulbs, so make us an offer we can’t refuse.
Jim was preceded in death by his younger son, Jeffrey, in 2003. For those of you who have lost a child, we share your pain and send our love. There were many things that caused Jim pain throughout his time: the Clinton years, the great recession, smoking over a pool of gasoline as a kid, Grandpa Charlie’s death, the Obama years, and why anyone would drink a beer other than Budweiser, but nothing compares to losing Jeff. Jim’s greatest pain has now been erased, and although those of us still here long for the day we meet again, we know the two of them, and about a dozen dogs as sidekicks, are already scoping out the best fishing holes together in heaven.
Funeral services will be held at St Mel's Catholic Church, Wednesday March 27th, 2019, at 1000. A celebration of life will follow immediately after, at the Carmichael Elks lodge, at 5631 Cypress Ave. in Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Citrus Heights Vet Center, 5650 Sunrise Blvd, suite 150, Citrus Heights, CA 95610, Attn.
