Kathleen Margaret was born to Thoedore and Manilla Schoefer in Sacramento on February 28, 1923. She had an older sister, Phyllis and a younger brother, Ted. She spent her childhood in Curtis Park and attended McClatchy High School. After high school, she was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Cal State Berkley, from where in 1945 with a teaching credential.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bob on October 26, 1943. Bob and Kay lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico after they were married, then moved back to the Berkley Hills where their first son, Randy was born in 1949. They relocated to Sacramento in the early 50s, where their second son, Don was born in 1955. Wanting to be closer to Bob’s job at Aerojet, they purchased a parcel of land in Fair Oaks and built their dream home which they moved into in 1959. In 1962, Joanne was born and their family was complete.
Kay spent much of her time being a wife and mom. She was a caretaker at heart, welcoming friends and family into her home. As her schedule freed her up from raising her kids, she immersed herself in activities at church. She found great joy in meeting new people and was known for her sweet smile and big hugs.
Of all the things in her life she was proud of, her family was at the top of the list. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Bob and their two sons, Don and Randy. She leaves behind her daughter and daughter-in-law, along with 6 grandchildren and their spouses and 10 great-grandchildren.
She passed away quietly and peacefully on February 1. She was at home, surrounded with family, just like she always wanted.
