Ed was born and raised in Los Angeles; graduated from Hollywood High School and received his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Colorado. He had a prestigious 42-year career with Caltrans Bridge Department in LA Sacramento and Redding, and was highly respected by everyone who knew him. Ed was an excellent writer; he wrote the first Caltrans Concrete Technology Manual, as well as their first Falsework Manual, which became the basic falsework textbook for bridge engineers and bridge contractors nationwide. For his family, he wrote a two-volume 860-page memoir about his “Journey Through Life”.
Ed, along with his wife Bev, loved spending time with family and friends, camping, snow skiing, water skiing, square dancing, round dancing, traveling and relaxing with a glass of Glenfiddich or Cabernet.
Ed is survived by his loving and, as he would say, “quintessential” wife Bev of 46 years. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Voorheis, sons Glenn (Zon) Dunn, Roy DaRe and Michael Amick; daughters Karen (Judy Heinel) Dunn, Robin (Amer) Abjoueljoud and Debbie Powell; granddaughters Naomi (Dave) Araldi, Miriah (Blair) Tomlinson, Katrina (Kaine) DaRe, Sarah and Miriam Abjoueljoud, Amber and Jennifer Mabus; grandsons Stryder and Torren Dunn, Ibrahim Abjoueljoud, Lucas DaRe as well as 8 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 4 nephews.
