Mae Morford, a matriarch who dedicated her life to family and celebration died in her home on 02/25/22. She was 91. Raised by her father, a single minister. Mae grew up sheltered to the world yet aware of its shortcomings. At age twelve she taught herself to use a Singer sewing machine and stitched her first dress. "I didn't have it all but I was the happiest little girl in Arizona," she said. Later when the church forbade her to dance, she decided that her love for God was not inhibited by her love to twirl, and so she twirled.
In the 1950's, a while living in Sacramento, she married and had four children. After years of raising her children at home, she chose to pursue a career, a decision that contradicted society's expectations. She dedicated herself to real estate and was awarded "Sacramento's Realtor of the Year". After retiring, she shifted her focus to documenting her family's history and became a "Daughter of the Revolution". She was a dedicated grandmother to five grandchildren and a great grandmother to four. "My family is what I love most in this world." she said just days before passing. Her ability to love in spite of a person's imperfections, her humor which she exercised until her final moments, her homemade pies, hand-written cards, and her desire to love wholly will be cherished and missed.
She is survived by her four children: Darlene Furtado, Neil (Bill) Hankin, Allan Hankin, and Robin Wilson; and grandchildren: Cody Furtado, Shayne Wilson, Amy Jo Lanway, and Christian, Camille and Liam McArdle-Hankin.
