

June 22, 2017, Jesus said "today you shall be with me in Paradise" and took him home to rest at the age of 83, in Orangevale, CA.
Born October 15, 1933 (Grandon, MO), Bob was a Christian of the Baptist faith.
He was six of nine children born to Clarence Spurgeon and Ruby Ethel (Kleinschrodt) Smelser whom are both deceased.
He is predeceased by sisters Pauline, Esther, Christine, and brothers John, Russel, Clarence (Pete), Carl (Jack), Raymond, and grandson Chris Kern.
Bob moved to Oakland CA, where he began school in 1939
.
At age 17, he enlisted in the Naval Air and was honorably discharged in September 1953 as Aviation Structural Mechanic & Airman.
Soon after he enlisted in the Army and attended the Seventh Army NCO-Academy in Munich, Germany, and was discharged September 1959 as SGT. E-5, ER 19 486 459, ARMOUR USAR.
While still in the Army reserves, Bob resided in Riverbank, CA and met his soon-to-be-wife,.Lawanda Doris Hutchison of Modesto, CA and was wed in April 6, 1957
The couple moved to Fair Oaks, CA where Bob took a position at Aerojet in October 1957, and retired after 34 1/2 years in 1993.
Along with his work and family , found time for woodworking, loved fishing,hunting and reunions with his brothers and their families also his associations with his co-workers and long-time friends
In April 1959, his first child was born, Amber Lynn Smelser. Amber enjoyed cooking for her father and the two got to enjoy his last Father's Day together over a favorite homecooked meal.
Then in June 1960, his second child was born, Robert Eric Smelser.
Eric and his father were practically inseperable when it came to hunting. The two would set out for many weekends out of the year and got to spend time together doing what they loved
.
In September 1960, the family moved to Orangevale, CA and purchased their first home.
Bob is survived by his wife, Doris of 60 years, daughter Amber and husband Keith, son Eric and wife Joanne,
grandchildren Jamie Green, Ryan Kern, Robbie Smelser, Samantha Smelser, and great grandchildren Edgard, Bryanna, Angelica, Bailee, Melinda, Melissa, Mason, and Diego.
Bob, dad, grandpa, we will miss you but find comfort in the fact that God gave you time to say your goodbyes to us, and that you made peace with God and all is well with your soul.

Graveside services will be held on August 4th, 2017 at 10:00am.
