Nicholls, Ronald L. , “Nick” passed away surrounded by family on February 3, 2011 at his home in Carmichael, CA. He was 75 years old. Ron was born in Sacramento, CA on August 13, 1935. He grew up for the most part in Sacramento with brief stints in Grass Valley and the Bay area. He attended and graduated from Grant High School. Ron served in the U.S. Army for 2 years at Fort Ord. From there, he attended CSU Sacramento where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. CSU Sacramento is also where he met his wife of almost 51 years, Barbara Nicholls. They were married on April 9, 1960. Both Ron and Barbara went into the same line of work as laboratory technologists; however, they knew the secret to a long marriage was NOT to work together! Ron worked briefly at Sutter Hospital before opening and managing the laboratory at Mercy San Juan Hospital for over 25 years. He enjoyed bowling and golfing as activities outside of his family. He was a devoted and loving father showing his devotion by always being there for his children through thick and thin, even broken bones. He was a baseball and softball coach, swim team volunteer, and a pep squad with whatever endeavors his children attempted. He continued to be part of his graduating class from Grant High School by participating until his passing in the organizing committee for the reunions. He will be remembered and missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Ron is survived by his wife Barbara, his children: Craig, Bryan, Wendy O’Hare and her husband Robert O’Hare, grandchildren: Brittney Nicholls, Katelynn & Kayla O’Hare.
There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 2:00-3:00pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, California. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Ron’s name to the American Heart Association.
