To my grandfather: The man that put it in my head that if man made it, man can fix it and his words are on my mind through all of my professional challenges. He helped propel people into space, taught me to putt like a green jacket golfer, but above all had one of the kindest hearts I've known. Hold fast, sailor. You will be missed.

I'm so sorry I missed his service, I was out of town.  Having grown up across the street from Ruben and Jackie, I was privileged to know them.  What I remember most about Ruben was... He got home from work at the same time every day, which my dad didn't(!), he loved to play golf and hit balls in the front yard regularly, and he grew great tomatoes!! He was so kind to our mom after my dad passed away, I will be grateful always.  He was a very kind man.

Just learned of Ruben's passing today and are sending our deepest sympathies. He was so very respected by our whole entire family. What a joy it was to have both Ruben and Jackie in SD to celebrate our Mom's (

In Memory of my Father-In-Law

Ruben generally was a soft spoken and quiet man.  He always treated me with kindness and respect.  One of my fondest memories of him is that he was always fixing things.  If a part was needed for something, he often did not need to go buy it.  The item would be somewhere in his garage.  He enjoyed fixing things and I enjoyed his visits to my home where he would detect something that could use a little fixing.  My husband jokes around and says this gift skipped a generation and our son, Eric, inherited his Grandfather's gift of being able to fix things.  Ruben put a lot of time in fixing things around his church, especially the Pre-School at Faith Lutheran.  One of his philosophies of life was: “If a man made it, a man can fix it”.  Ruben, you lived a good life and I was fortunate to have you as a father-in-law.  Be at peace!  We will see each other again in our Heavenly Father's home.  Your loving Daughter-in-Law,

When I was a little girl Mr Fiechtner was my Sunday school teacher at Faith Lutheran Church.  I have nothing but fond memories.  He was a very gentle and kind man.  I used to love his bible stories.  I don't know if you will remember me Gregory.  We went to grammar school together at Faith.  My prayers and thoughts are with your family.

Our prayers are with the entire Fiechtner clan. A son is a reflection of his father. I did not know Ruben very well - having met him only once, but I know his son, Greg, very well - he is my Pastor. Greg is a terrific Pastor and person - a true friend. I know his Dad was a great Father and friend to everyone who knew him - I know this because his son, Greg, loved him. I know I didn't get to see much of my grandfather, but he was always supporting me through childhood, my teen years and into my adult life.  I always thought to myself how smart he was.  I really looked up to him when we were together.  When I got into college he told me I could accomplish anything and how smart he thought I was, and that meant everything.  When grandma passed, I remember standing alone with him looking at her and he softly said to me, "You know?  I really did love her....and I'm going to miss her so much.  I didn't think this would be so hard."  I put my arms around him and said how much I loved him.  After that I wrote to him when I could and he wrote to me until he couldn't write anymore.  Grandpa I love you so much and I will always remember what a wonderful man you were to your children and grandchildren.  I will never forget you.

Even though he lived far away, I know he was always near in your thoughts.  Rest assured you will always have him near in your heart even now. He will never really  leave you. He obviously gave you a great gift- Christian love- and for that we will all be eternally grateful.  We send our prayers and love and sympathy and pray that you have safe travels. May you find comfort in your sister's love and the love of God.

In Memory of my Dad:

I never knew him to give up anything for Lent, but as a born again child of God, he gave a consistent witness to what it means to live a life that is to the Glory of His Father in Heaven.  The world would commend him for being able to persevere and overcome the terrible toll the Dust Bowl years caused his family when they lost the far and they became migrant workers for a time.  He would be commended for the honorable service given to his country during WWII and the fact that he was the first of the family to graduate from college.  He would be commended because of his skill in the aerospace profession and his contribution to the "space race".  But what was of real note was the love for his family and the love for his church, a love that was refreshed from the same driven source.  So many hours of service were given as a Sunday School teacher, an Elder, a Stephen's Ministry Trainer, a member of numerous committees at his church, and so much more.  The use of his Time, Talents, and Treasure was amazing. I was and am in awe of and humbled by his witness.  He was a life well lived, not just for a season but for the whole sojourn.  He was a man who did much good, not for his own glory, but for the good of others and the Praise of his Heavenly Father.
