June 15, 1943 - August 23, 2015
Ruth Ann Wulff, age 72, transitioned to a more peaceful place on August 23, 2015 at
Kaiser hospital after battling cancer for 18 months. Ruth was born June 15, 1943
in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of John Tortora and Ruth Marshall.
In July 1968, Ruth married the love of her life, a mathematics professor, Dr. John
Leland Wulff. Their union took place at Saint Marks Church in Sacramento.
Ruth and John literally started building their life together in 1967 by remodeling
the home they later expanded upon with their own two hands in order to
accommodate their soon to be growing family of four children.
Ruth’s biggest joys included spending time with her family, exploring different
parts of the world, fine dining, sewing, ironing, music, theatre, teaching and frogs.
Her passion for sewing and music came from time spent as a youth in a Catholic
orphanage. The nuns supported her sewing abilities by providing unlimited
material and supplies to make any clothing she desired. They also exposed her
to music by offering classical piano lessons.
This continued excitement and passion for music was passed on to her children
through the formation of the family’s singing and dancing group, The Wulff Pac.
Ruth was the seamstress for all of their elaborate costumes, sound engineer and
manager for this budding group. Over time, the variety show expanded to
incorporate instruments thus forming their own band as well.
For 25 years, Ruth was a devoted and passionate math teacher to nearly 4,000
students. She cared deeply for her students and took a personal interest in their
success. With an open door policy, Ruth refused to give up on any of them. She
left no one behind. She had the ability to uncover students potential igniting
hidden confidence that later gave them the tools needed to succeed in life.
Ruth is survived by her husband, John L. Wulff; four children Leland J. Wulff with
wife Tanya Wulff, Nancy Francis with husband Joe Francis, Susan Wulff, and
Karen Ruggiero with husband Paolo Ruggiero along with ten beautiful
grandchildren; Travis, Casey, Baylee, Kaylynn, Brandon, Aaron, Lucio, Cameron,
Joey and Alessia.
A funeral service honoring Ruth’s life will take place Monday, August 31st,
1:00pm at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park in the Family Chapel. The service will be
led by Pastor Clark Crebar concluding with a private escort by Pall Bearers
Karen Ruggiero, Susan Wulff, Leland J. Wulff, Paolo Ruggiero, Joe Francis, Jim
Dempsey, and Associate Pall Bearer, John L. Wulff to her final resting place.
A viewing is scheduled Sunday, August 30th from 2:00-4:30pm at the Mt. Vernon
Memorial Park in the Washington Room for those who are unable to attend the
service.
Memorial donations can be sent to the Wulff Family c/o Mt. Vernon Memorial
Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks 95628 (916) 969-1251.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Kaiser Hospital and for the abundance of love
and support by way of private/public messages, cards, flowers, appearances,
and prayers during this difficult time.
“Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next
room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and
you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched,
unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the
old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no
difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as
we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think
of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life
means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and
unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I
be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an
interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well.” - anonymous
