

Shirley Joan Abbath, 89, of Fair Oaks, CA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, with loving family by her side. Born on November 22, 1935, in Chandler, OK, Shirley lived a full life dedicated to her family, friends and community.
In 1941 Shirley’s family moved from Oklahoma to Moorpark, CA, where she graduated from Moorpark Memorial Union High School in 1953. She called Moorpark home for 62 years before relocating to Fair Oaks in 2003.
Shirley is joyfully reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 60 years, Monte Abbath, and their son, Steven. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children and their spouses: son Jeffrey Abbath (Susan) of Visalia, CA; daughter Linda Wheeler (Rodney) of Orangevale, CA; and daughter-in-law Ann Abbath (wife of Steven) of Greeley, CO. Shirley was a cherished grandmother to her eight grandchildren—Steven Jr., Chrissi, Kevin, Joshua, Kasey, Korryn, Keith and Kyle—and a proud great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
The youngest of eight children, Shirley was born to her beloved parents, Floyd Otis and Rhoda Mae Brewer. She now joins them, and her siblings: Lorene Hesser, Reg Brewer, Ron Brewer, Adeline Sitman, Dale Brewer, Clifford Donald Brewer, and Wanda Cowlishaw in eternal rest.
After high school, Shirley worked at the Navy base in Port Hueneme, CA. In 1954, Shirley and Monte were married while he served in the U.S. Army. In 1956 they were blessed with their first child, followed by two more children in 1957 and 1959. Shirley’s life centered on her family, and she found fulfillment creating a warm and loving home.
A dedicated member of the community, Shirley volunteered with Moorpark organizations like Camp Fire Girls, Little League and the Women’s Auxiliary for Fire Station 42. She was an active participant in her children’s school activities and PTA, and spent countless hours volunteering at the Poindexter School library. In the 1970’s, Shirley established the library at Flory School, where she worked as the librarian for many years, nurturing a love of books in the students.
Shirley and Monte shared a love for camping, boating and fishing, creating treasured memories with family and friends.
Above all, Shirley was a devoted wife, mom, and “MumMum,” whose kindness and love will forever resonate with those that knew her.
Shirley will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
