

Thelma was born on July 9, 1911 in Wagner, South Dalota, later homesteaded with her Parents, Jesse and Sarah Van Hook and family. In the Chalk Buttes area near Ekalala, Montana.
Thelma was a very active member of the Folsom Moose Lodge for many years holding many Titles including Senior Regent.
Thelma’s love for horses lasted a lifetime and she told many stories of her life on the Prairie. She moved to California in the early 1940’s where she raised her three daughters.
She was a remarkable lady with a great sense of humor, she said the greatest thrill was Horseback riding in many parades on Market Street in San Francisco.
Thelma’s Book “Tall Tales of Montana, Homesteading and Beyond” was published on her 100th Birthday.
Thelma is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, David Kirkish, daughters Roberta Worthley of Sacramento, Darlene Nowicki of San Diego and grandsons Ronald and Kevin Gonsalves.
She is survived by her daughter Joanne Engle and her stepdaughters, Patricia Kirkish of Pasadena and Kathleen Kirkish of Oakland, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
