Helping people lit a fire in him. He was happiest when he was solving a problem for someone else. He loved surprising people with something they needed. He wasn’t effusive, but he would happily chat, listen, and ask questions. Within minutes of meeting someone, if they had a problem, he would be willing to move mountains for them.
Tim loved building and fixing things. It was the essence of helping others. He was a craftsman, in every sense. He built and repaired his way through life, and through others’ lives.
When he wasn’t building or working, Tim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and cooking. He was a craft beer and movie enthusiast. Tim traveled the world for both work and pleasure, he loved sightseeing.
Tim passed away unexpectedly, and will be sorely missed.
For the safety of family and friends during the covid pandemic, the family has chosen to delay services until a later date.
Tim was born in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Orlin R. Bottjen and Letha P. (Handke) Bottjen. He was the youngest of 11 siblings and stepsiblings and always helped his dad around the house. Tim was on the track and field team, went hunting, and he flew model airplanes. He had a big circle of friends, they would often go bowling or out to movies.
Tim lived in Sioux City, Iowa until completion of school at Western Iowa Tech where he received his degree in electronic engineering. After completing his studies he moved to Littleton, Colorado where he began working for Johnson and Johnson Ultrasound as a field Service Engineer until 1987. He then began working for Dornier Medtech where he eventually became a Senior Systems Engineer and Installer until his passing.
In 1976, Tim started dating Lisa J. Lewis, they married in 1981 in Littleton, Colorado. In 1982 they had their first child, Joshua A. Bottjen, and in 1983 they had a daughter, Melissa A. Bottjen. The Bottjens eventually settled in California in 1988. In the years to follow he assisted in raising Kayla L. Lewis and Kourtney R. Lewis. Tim loved kids and enjoyed spending time with them.
Tim is survived by his wife Lisa (Lewis) Bottjen, son Joshua A. Bottjen and wife Christiana Bottjen and Grandson Gabriel T. Bottjen, daughter Jo A. Duffy (née Melissa Bottjen) and husband Patrick Duffy.
Tim also leaves behind his stepmother Delia (Rains) Bottjen and three brothers; Darrell Bottjen, John Bottjen and Lyle Bottjen, one sister Linda (Bottjen) Lamoureux.
Tim also has 2 stepbrothers David Rains and Danny Rains. Three stepsisters Georgetta Grimes, Cindy Kover, and Kelly Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orlin Bottjen and Letha (Handke) Bottjen, and his stepbrother, Kenneth Rains.
