A gift of love and light to others, she was born as the almond trees blossomed on February 11, 1947. Gentle, empathetic and kind, she gave generously of herself through 75 years of vibrant living.
As a little girl, still in elementary school, she volunteered to help special needs children, joyous work she continued through her graduation in 1964 from Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, CA. A 1968 graduate of California State University Sacramento, she led the commencement procession, as the acknowledged leader of her class. In her junior CSUS year she attended Leicester University in England as an international exchange student. Extraordinary for an undergraduate, there she researched and published the first of her many research articles on human development and family life.
Awarded a Ph.D. at University of California Berkeley, she held a teaching appointment at Massey University in New Zealand, a research appointment at U C Berkeley, and clinical appointments at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, before entering private practice as a Clinical Psychologist. In all of her professional and academic work, kindness, empathy and generosity of self infused an uncanny ability to help others find their own, unique paths to healing and growth.
Vicky loved animals, great and small, and so many of them loved her over the years. She was an avid dressage rider and breeder of Lipizzans, winning many competitions on her favorite horses and following the lives of the Lipizzaners she bred for others.
On April 1, 1972, she married Donald Andrew Johnson Hansen, and some years later they became the parents of two wonderful sons, Michael George Johnson Hansen and Nicholas Andrew Johnson Hansen. Vicky’s wondrous marriage to Don of 50 years ended May 19th, 2022, after a sudden resurgence of the Stage IV cancer she had battled, calmly and quietly, for 17 years.
In her final years, Vicky was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Delany James Hansen, Declan Andrew Hansen, and Daxan Cole Hansen. She loved playing and searching for animal tracks and critters with Delany, playing with Declan and holding baby Daxan.
Rather than the many accomplishments of her life, Vicky would most want to be remembered as the child of her marvelous parents, George and Naoma Johnson, as a wondrous wife, mother and grandmother, and as a true friend to those she loved.
