

February 20, 1933 – May 6, 2014
Wayne passed away peacefully May 6th at the age of 81 years young with his family at his side, after a gallant battle against cancer and complications from pneumonia.
He was preceded in death by wife Anabelle V. Thornton in 2003. He is survived by their children daughter Lennea Gaylene Thornton-Downs (husband Bill), son Wayne Vern Thornton Jr. (wife Rose), daughter Sara Jayne Pesola (husband Michael) and his beloved dog Missy. Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren Cory (wife Erica), Shelby (husband Daniel), Melodie and (Bobby). Also, his great-grandchildren Connor, Gracie and numerous “granimals”.
Wayne served honorably in the USAF for 26-years, retiring in 1978 at the rank of MSgt. He served combat duties in Korea and twice in Vietnam, always returning safely to his family in Rancho Cordova.
After retiring he went to work for Sierra College in the transportation Department. He took great pride in having been chosen by the S.F. 49ers to be their personal bus driver during their time at the college for spring training during their Championship Reign.
Viewing will be Thursday, May 15 between 4-7pm and funeral services with full Military Honors and interment will be Friday, May 16 at 1:00pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Park located at 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks.
