Albesa Garza Salas, affectionately known to many as “Betsy,” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 93. She passed away at her home in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by her children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Pedro Salas Sr.; sons, Lisandro and Michael Salas; her parents, Cosme and Esperanza Garza; brothers, Maximo, Nicolas and Armando Garza; and her sisters, Estella Saenz, Isabel Vargas, Eliza Hinojosa, and Rebecca Vargas.
Albesa was born on May 19, 1932, in Los Olmos, Texas to Cosme Garza Sr. and Esperanza Rodriguez Garza. She was an active member of the St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Richmond and a Guadalupana member. She also worked with the Richmond Sacred Heart Church Mother’s Day Out program where she helped with caring for children.
She was the best mother and grandmother, and loved being silly, sweet, and sassy. She found joy in life’s simple blessings and her heart was happiest in the company of those she loved. Whether it was sharing laughter around the kitchen table or soaking in the warmth of the afternoon sun on her front porch, she showed us all that the love of family and time spent together are the sweetest of gifts. She was an avid Astros fan and loved Jose Cruz; she enjoyed trips to the casino and playing bingo, blitz and chalupa; and the words we will always remember her sharing include, “You can do yet (it)”, “I came to play”, and “I love you!”
Albesa was the heart of her family, their rock, their comfort, and their guiding light. Her love will forever remain a part of them, as will her contagious sense of humor and her passion for squeezing the most out of each day. These gifts will be carried on through the lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the endless warmth she shared.
She is survived by her sons, Pedro (Yolanda) Salas Jr. of Baytown, Texas, Alejandro (Irma) Salas of Falfurrias, Texas, Jose (Karen) Salas of Fort Worth, Texas, and Rafael Salas of Richmond, Texas; daughters, Yolanda S. Garza of Falfurrias, Texas, Mary Helen (Homer) Munguia of San Antonio, Texas, Soila (Raymond) Segura of Rosenberg, Texas, and Emma (Michael) Jackson of Bleiblerville, Texas; brothers, Ruben (Lucy) Garza, Ramiro (Elda) Garza, and Rene (Gloria) Garza all of Falfurrias, Texas, and Cosme (Hilda) Garza Jr. of Rios, Texas; sister, Bertha (Manuel) Daniel of San Antonio, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Pallbearers will be Pedro Salas III, Jared Salas, Rene Garza II, Raymond Segura Jr., John David Salas, and David Salas. Honorary Pallbearer is Jesus “Chuy” Daniel Salas.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias, Texas, with Visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias.
