Alonzo P. Guerra, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away on November 12, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and laughter that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on January 20, 1937 to Rafael Guerra and Dominga Piña Guerra in Hebbronville, Texas, Alonzo led a life marked by love and an unwavering commitment to his family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a cherished grandfather.
A dedicated family man, Alonzo took immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He had an extraordinary ability to make each grandchild feel special and loved.
In his free time, Alonzo enjoyed making deer jerky, which was enjoyed by many of his family and friends. He was also an avid gambler and enjoyed playing the Texas Lottery. He visited all his friends at Hillcrest Grocery for his daily purchase of Lottery Tickets. His enthusiasm for life, coupled with his positive outlook, inspired those around him to embrace the beauty of each moment. Alonzo loved mariachi music and enjoyed singing with them at any family event.
As we bid farewell to Alonzo, we remember him not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the love he shared and the lasting mark he left on our lives. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories we hold dear.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his parents, Rafael Guerra and Dominga Piña Guerra, his daughter Glenda Baez, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Alonzo worked as a migrant worker at an early age and later worked at Jim Hogg County Road & Bridge Department for over 20 years.
Alonzo leaves behind many fond memories that will be treasured forever by his wife of 63 years, Delia Carpentier Guerra of Hebbronville; sons, Jose (Maria) Guerra of Hutto, Texas, Joel (Molly) Guerra of Tyler, Texas, Alonzo, Jr., (Melinda) of Corpus Christi, Texas, daughters; Cynthia (Jose) Betancourt, Martha Corrales, Christi (Benito) Cantu, and Erica Guerra, all from Hebbronville, Texas, and by his son in law, Ricardo Baez. Alonzo is also survived by over 70 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren which includes three grandchildren who he cared for as his own children, Jo Ann Vasquez, Juan Carlos Guerra and Andrea Corrales. Alonzo is also survived by his brother, Guadalupe (Maria Luisa) Guerra from Corpus Christi, Texas.
