

On April 30, 2011 our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Aurora (Yoya) Barraz Cantu, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 29, 1930 in Hebbronville, TX to Manuel and Consuelo Barraz. She married Francisco Horacio “Lacho” Cantu on February 2, 1947 and had 7 children. She was a devout member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and an active member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She will be dearly missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Ramon Barraz, and her son-in-law Manuel Avila.
She is survived by her siblings, Minerva (Oscar+) Carreon of Hebbronville, TX, Manuel (Olivia) Barraz of Garland, TX, Tomas (Sylvia) Barraz of Hebbronville, TX, and sister-in-law Olinda (Ramon+) Barraz of Hebbronville, TX; her children Linda (Manuel+) Avila and Pamela (Rene) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, TX, Juan Manuel (Adeline) Cantu of Rio Grande City, TX, and Francisco Horacio Cantu, Jr., Javier David (Sally) Cantu, Santos Eliu (Rosa) Cantu, Luis Alonzo (Sara) Cantu, all of Hebbronville, TX, 21 grandchildren, 30 great grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 starting at 4:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams with the Corona Franciscana recited at 5:15 p.m. and the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. May 3rd, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and burial will follow at the New Hebbronville Catholic Cemetery.
Honoring the deceased as pallbearers will be: Manuel Avila, Jr., Rene M. Gonzalez, Jr., Juan M. Cantu, Jr., Javier D. Cantu II, Santos E. Cantu II, Luis A. Cantu Jr., Oscar A. Carreon Jr., Omar A. Carreon, and Anselmo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be: Marco A. Avila, Tomas G. Avila, Roberto A. Cantu, and Saul E. Cantu.
The Cantu and Barraz families would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rothschild, Dr. Nash, Dr. Almanza, Dr. Ibanez, the chemo therapy nurses at the Cancer Center, Nurses on Wheels Home Health and Hospice, and her provider, Rosa Cervantes, for the excellent care and kindness that they gave during our loved one’s courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
