

Juan R.Cuellar entered fully into the presence of the Lord on June 16, 2022 in Katy, Texas. He was 88 years old and throughout his battle with cancer he showed courage in facing life's challenges with a smile and stayed strong until the end, never complaining.
He was born on January 27, 1934 to Felipe and Cayetana Cuellar on the Los Maguelles Ranch in Jim Hogg County. At the age of 8 years old his family moved to Hebbronville, Texas. He grew up a hard worker, picking watermelons, later becoming a vaquero and enjoying ranch work. Then as young men he and his brother, Reyes, traveled to Port Arthur, Texas. It was there that he met the love of his life, Juanita Aguilar, and married her on August 31,1956.
Being a musician he played guitar at Our Lady of Guadalupe church in Port Arthur,Tx where he was a lifelong member. St Joseph's church in Port Arthur was also blessed to have Juan play at many morning masses. He shared his passion for the guitar by giving lessons to anyone who wanted to learn, free of charge. Juan enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. For 56 years he participated successfully in the AA recovery program, and would mentor many seeking help with alcoholism while building lifelong friendships along the way.
A skilled carpenter, he worked as a contractor for 25 years and then for Ameripol Synpol for an additional 20 years. He was a member of the Labor Union for 12 years and a member of the Carpenters Local (Port Arthur) for 35 years.
Upon his Heavenly Homecoming he was reunited with his parents; beloved wife of 65 years Juanita Aguilar Cuellar; brothers, Felipe and Reyes Cuellar; sisters, Maria Refugio Serna, Antonia Ruiz, Andrea Rocha, Felicitas Villarreal; nephews, Marcos Serna Sr. and Marcos Serna Jr.
Juan leaves behind many fond memories that will be cherished and treasured by his children, Juan R. (Erin) Cuellar of Nederland, Tx, Lidia Isabel (Edward) Martinez of Blanco, Tx, Martha (Brad) Baker of Austin, Tx and Silvia McClain of Beaumont, Tx. He was a fun loving Grandpa to his grandchildren, Anthony (Caty) Martinez, Natalie (Tyler) Hernandez, Phillip (Kelsi) Martinez, Victoria (A.J.) Ledesma, Elise (Andrew) Mueller, Luke Huch, Ryan McClain, Joshua McClain, Marisa McClain and Juan R. (Jessamyn) Cuellar III. He was "Cowboy Grandpa" to his great grandchildren, Adelaide Hernandez, Coraline Hernandez, Gideon Hernandez, Emma Martinez, Grant Martinez, Jay Edward Martinez, Logan Mueller, Lily Mueller, Julia Rose Cuellar, Jared Fletcher, Aunalee Huch and Aurabella Huch.
Visitation will start at 8:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams, Hebbronville, Texas. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Rite of Christian burial will follow at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the countless nurses, doctors, and medical staff at M D Anderson and VibraLife for the excellent care and comfort that they provided for our beloved father over these past several months.
