

Oscar Hinojosa, 90, passed away August 12, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family after a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born August 6, 1927, to Maximiliano and Clemencia Canales Hinojosa in Falfurrias, Tx. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Zelda Christina Schumitz; his brothers Martin and Maximiliano, Jr.; and his sister, Minerva H. Ramirez.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Hilda Alaniz Hinojosa; his daughters Cynthia (Robert) Rodriguez of San Antonio, Tx. and Belinda (Hinojosa) Grein of Henderson, Nv.; his sons Joel (Thelma) Hinojosa of San Antonio, Tx., Carlos (Jennifer) Hinojosa of Austin, Tx., and Thomas (Ana) Hinojosa of San Jose, Ca.; his brothers-in-law Hector Ramirez of Falfurrias, Tx., Orlando Alaniz of Laredo, Tx., and sister-in-law Dora Alaniz Garza and husband Tony of Falfurrias, Tx. Also left to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Oscar graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1945 and attended The University of Texas - Austin and Texas A&I University - Kingsville. He served honorably in the U. S. Coast Guard on the USS Falgout and USS Newell in 1945 and 1946. He also served proudly as a sergeant in the U. S. Army at Ft. Riley, KS, from 1950 to 1952. He worked for Reynolds Aluminum in Corpus Christi, Tx., and B&B Motors in Falfurrias, Tx., following his retirement from the military. Oscar advocated community service and held the positions of District Clerk for the 79th Judicial District Court from 1953 to 1970 as well as Secretary- Treasurer for the County & District Clerks’ Association of Texas. He was appointed as Brooks County Auditor, serving from 1971 to 1984. After completing public service to his community, Oscar also worked as a landman for various pipeline companies that involved traveling with Hilda from California to Florida for several years until his permanent retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, ranching, farming, and working on his beloved yard. Oscar was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias.
Visitation will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, August 19, at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias, Tx, with the Rosary commencing at 9:30 am. Mass will be celebrated following the Rosary at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias, Tx. at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Falfurrias Burial Park.
