Rodolfo R. Medellin

Rodolfo Medellin, also known as “Rudy”, attended Hebbronville High School. Sporting #28, he was a Fullback for the Hebbronville Longhorns. He was a tough obstacle in the path of all Hebbronville opponents. According to Coach J.M. Pearce, “Exceedingly fast, he was a good broken-field runner and had lots of power.”

At the age of 18, he went on to serve in the United States Army. With great courage and bravery, he fought in the Korean War from 1950-1952, earning a U.N Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with 6 Bronze service stars. After his military service, he returned home to Hebbronville, Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Gloria. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 25 years and would break horses and work cattle on his spare time. He loved being out in the country. His campfire stories about his cattle round up days were that out of a cowboy novel. He loved to dance, sing, and from time to time, he would grace everyone with a tune that he played on his harmonica. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria, and 3 children, Gloria Martinez (Noe) of Encino, TX, Rudy Medellin (Letty) of Rowlett, TX, Ruben Medellin (Michelle) of Houston, TX; 6 granddaughters, Jessica Guerra (Beto) of Laredo, TX, Valerie Medellin (Victor) of Rowlett, TX, Candice Cross (Sebastian) of Houston, TX, Arianna Medellin (Austin) of Houston, TX, Katelyn Reyes of Beeville, TX, Kylee Medellin of Houston, TX; 6 grandsons; Jeremy Martinez of Encino, TX, Justin Medellin of San Antonio, TX, RJ Medellin of Hebbronville, TX; 5 Great- Grandchildren; Tres G Guerra of Austin, TX, Leah Mae Guerra of Laredo, TX, Joaquin Guerra of Laredo, TX, Jonathan Cross of Houston, TX, Adaiah Lopez of Houston, TX. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Sara Carpenter of San Marcos, TX and Lucy Scala of Scottsdale, AZ and one brother, Rene Medellin of Chacon, NM.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gil and Enriqueta Medellin; brothers, Leopoldo Medellin, Even Medellin, Roberto Medellin, and Ruben Medellin; Sister, Thelma Collins.

Memorial graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
