

Alice J. Karaba, née Olsen, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 95, in her home at Plymouth Place in LaGrange Park, IL. Born in Berwyn, IL on February 15, 1930, Alice was a graduate of Morton East High School, where she met her husband of 45 years, Frank A. Karaba, who died in 1996.
Alice and Frank were longtime residents of LaGrange where they raised their three children. Alice was an active homemaker, volunteer and caregiver. She volunteered in a variety of charitable organizations and loved to play bridge. As a lifelong member of the former Warren Park Presbyterian Church, Cicero, IL and then First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, Alice was devoted to her faith, which provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life. Alice’s family thanks the staff and nursing professionals of Plymouth Place for providing her with outstanding assistance and care throughout the seven years she lived there, especially during her final days.
Alice was also preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Gertrude Olsen (nee Newman) and her brother, Roger M. Olsen, of Cincinnati, OH. Alice is survived by her loving children, Thomas F. Karaba (Marsha Hoover) of Chicago, IL; Stephen M. Karaba (Cristy) of Prairie Grove, IL; and Catherine K. Biernacki (Alan) of Clarendon Hills, IL. She was the proud grandmother of Dr. Andrew H. Karaba (Sara); Katie Lusk (Ryan) of Crystal Lake, IL; Julie M. K. Siegal (Peter); Sarah Detloff (Brian) of Crystal Lake, IL; and Rebecca Biernacki of Grand Rapids, MI. Alice delighted in being great-grandma to Brody, Liam, and Kira Lusk; Alexandra and Natalie Detloff; Owen and Arthur Karaba; and Theodora Siegal. Alice was also a loving aunt to three nephews and three nieces.
