Gregory L Woods

Gregory Lemar Woods was born on February 20, 1959 to the late Clarence and Frances Woods in Chicago, Illinois. He was the second child born from this union. Gregory received his formal education from Hefferan Elementary School in West Garfield Park and Austin High School (Class of 1977), both in Chicago, Illinois.

Gregory worked for Howard Pontiac Dealership, and on January 8, 1992, he became a Correctional Officer with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, where he would remain in the role for 30 years until his retirement. Gregory met and married Charman McGrew on August 8, 1987. From this union was born their daughter, Krystal.

Gregory was called home on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nedra. Gregory leaves behind to cherish his precious memory: Charman, his wife of 35 years; his beloved daughter, Krystal; his brothers Eric (Bennie) and Michael; his sister Cynthia, and sister-in-love Linda. His nieces: Felicia (Johnny), Tiffany (Markus), Tiara. His nephew Eric, Jr. His great nieces and nephews: Iya, Eric III, Trevon, Leighland, Blaze, and Lawrence. His aunts Gwendolyn (Chicago, Illinois) and Rhonda (Vicksburg, Mississippi); his uncle M.C. (Pontiac, Michigan), as well as a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.

A visitation for Gregory will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, Illinois 60130. A prayer service will occur Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, Illinois 60130 followed by a committal service at 12:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, Illinois 60130.
