John Daniel Green was born to the union of the Reverend Leonard Green, Sr. and Saint Clara "Sis" (nee Scales) on July 16,1946 in Natchez, MS. John, affectionately known to all as J.D., was born the youngest of two sons. Raised in a Baptist home, JD professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age.
After graduating from high school , JD embarked on his life endeavors which included time spent as a student at Xavier University in LA before he moved to Maywood, Il. Many in Maywood still remember him from the Nation Times record shop on 17th and Madison before he settled in his long term career as an auto worker for General Motors where he retired after 30 years of service.
JD was married to Rosalind Hedgley in 1976, although the union ceased, the love and friendship they shared continued until his passing.
On a sunny day, JD was never too far from his golf clubs and as an avid golfer, he seemed to find sanctuary on the golf course. Over the years, JD participated in numerous amateur golf tournaments and frequently invited his grandsons to his golf outings to introduce them to the game. Even his signature and his license plates reflected his love of the links.
JD evolved into a loving father and grandfather and the time spent with his grandchildren, especially "Nyah-Bear" was an endless source of joy for him.
On April 23, 2017 JD made his transition from his earthly home to his eternal resting place. He is proceeded in death by both parents, Leonard and Saint Clara, and sister-in-law Janice Green.
JD is survived by his two daughters, Charita Branscomb (Lee) of Richmond Virginia and Nedra Sykes of Oak Park, Illinois. Also mourning JD's demise is his brother, Leonard Green, Jr. (Barbara) of Lansing, Il and sister Deborah Green-Lester of Flint, MI "Grandpa" will be dearly missed by his grandsons Nile, Nigel, and Nevin Sykes and Cameron Branscomb; his very special Granddaughter Nyah; his only niece Carolyn Harris (Russell), nephews Michael, Kenneth, and Derrick Green; several great nieces/nephews and a host of family and friends.
