Maria Elena Chavez

Maria Elena Chavez, age 87, of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 17, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Abel Sr.; loving mother of Juan (Teresa), Sandra, Eduardo, Lupe Chavez-Sedlacek, Cesar and the late Abel Chavez Jr.; cherished grandmother of Sabrina, Michael, Abel, Sergio, Michelle, Ralph (Liliana), Bianca (Danny), Santino (Ariana), Michael Puentes, Milo, Mimi, Jazmin, Michael (Valerie), Joseph, Peter, Abel, Cesar, Ruben and the late Omar; great grandmother of 28 and great great grandmother of 4; fond aunt of many; dear comadre, godmother and close friend to many. She had a special relationship with her caregivers, Lupita, Maria and Carmen.

Whenever any of her children said lets go to mom's, anybody with them knew they too were welcome. The neighbors and friends knew her as Grandma Chavez.

A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Procopius Catholic Church, 1202 West 18th Street (Corner of 18th St. and Allport St.) Parking is available at 16th and Racine Avenue. Celebration of Life Mass Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM, at St. Procopius Catholic Church, 1202 West 18th Street (Corner of 18th Street and Allport Street) parking available at 16th and Racine Avenue. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, 87th Street and Hamlin Avenue, Evergreen Park, Illinois.
