Patricia “Pat” (Schuett) Gregor, 76, of Oak Park, Illinois, passed from this life while under hospice care and the careful watch of her husband of 54 years and children. She was born in Maywood, IL to Harry and Kathleen Schuett, who preceded her in death. Pat is survived by her loving husband, Monty Gregor of Oak Park, Illinois.
Also surviving are her admiring children, Andrea (Bill) McGlynn of Oak Park, IL, and Paul (Kimberley) Gregor of New Lenox, IL; her fond granddaughters, Daphne and Farrah Gregor; her siblings, Diane S. (Ongena) Cummings, Steven Schuett, Faye (Linda Burnett) Schuett, and Scott (Amy) Schuett; her nieces and nephews, Charles (Lisa) Ongena, Zachary (Molly) Schuett, Mary (Greg) MacLeod, Breanna Schuett, Bonnie (Josh) Friess, Daniel Schuett, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition, she is survived by her aunt, Deloris Ranieri and many cousins. Pat was also mom to two international students, Elin Andersen of Hamar, Norway and Georg Jelinek of Vienna, Austria.
Pat attended Loyola University of Chicago where she achieved a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1969. There at Loyola, Pat met the one and only love of her life, best friend, and loyal husband, Monty. They were married at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and moved to Hawaii where Pat supported Monty through his Marine Corps commitment. Since 1975, Pat and Monty have lived in Oak Park where they raised and educated their children and created beautiful homes.
Pat was known by all as an ardently dedicated, professional nurse, ensuring extraordinary care for people at the most difficult times of their lives. Her career was grounded in rehabilitation nursing, continued in home health care and then hospice, where she helped people transition from life as she did, peacefully and honorably. She was a mentor and manager, but foremost a clinician who always put patients’ and their families’ needs, goals, and values above all. Her children are grateful that she set the example for the work ethic that they developed.
Pat’s actions showed the love she had and the extent she would go for any family member, coworker, or patient. Pat also taught CCD and literacy, and she volunteered for the Oak Park Education Foundation. Pat was an excellent cook (if you could give her the time!), gardening director, loving dog owner, and an adored grandmother and senior member of her big family. Pat was resilient and determined through health challenges and her sharp wit and dry humor always took people by surprise, even through her final phase of life.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Patricia that will be held on Friday, December 1st, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, Illinois 60130.
