Alice Mary (Smethers) Campati, age 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. She was born April 30, 1926 in Fort Wayne, the second daughter in a set of identical twins born to Lawrence R. and Lucinda K. (Bell) Smethers. She and her twin sister Agnes shared the closest of bonds until the ravages of ALzheimer's disease took its toll on both of them. On June 14, 1952, she married Anthony Eugene Campati at Precious Blood Church in Fort Wayne. When he passed away unexpectedly in 1964, she was left to raise their five children on her own. She spent most of her life as a homemaker. When many others might have been thinking about retirement, she ventured back into the workforce as a Sales Associate with Kohl's retiring in 1997. Her strong faith carried her through life's many challenges, and her love of gardening not only nourished her spirit, but brought delight to all those who had a chance to behold the beauty of her handiwork. She is survived by her children Michael A. (Cheryl) Campati of St. Joe, IN; Ann M. (Narbeth) Emmanuel of Edwardsburg, IL; Elizabeth M. (D. Keith) Miles of Phoenix, AZ; Mark E.(Julie) Campati of Fort Wayne and Janet R. Campati of Avilla, IN; seven grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Patricia K. Smethers and Agnes M. Grunst and her brother Lawrence M. Smethers.
