 To Anne- Michelle was new at our middle school and I was an outcast but she was my friend none the less and I will always miss you Michelle....My youth memories are happy ones with your family at your house(while you worked long hours the mice did play) I am truly sorry Anne for your loss..

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child.  Our deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

I will forever remember Michelle's infectious laugh eating Chinese food in my kitchen.  After all those years, we reconnected immediately and talked for hours.  What an amazing person, thank you for your love and advice.  You will be missed and forever loved by so many.

 I only wish I was good at saying just the right thing at a time like this.  But that is not exactly true, because I really wish there was never a time like this.

There are so many wonderful things that I have read about you.  When I met you, I think you were maybe 5 or 6, I knew you would grow to be an amazing woman.
  
Your photos have brought back so many wonderful memories.  It was a privilege to have known you Michelle.

When I think of Michelle I think of promise.  She was always a fighter and always moved on towards her goal no matter what.  She was small but she was mighty - a small package with a great heart.  I always felt that she had a spirtuality unique to herself and that she walked with God - just in a different way.

I did not know your wonderful daughter--lost my boy Andrew martin Schnitker March 24th--I feel your loss--he was 22..our babies were just beginning their lives..how we survive I can not tell you.Just know that  we remain in the holy spirt until we see our child again.what keeps me going is that our children would NEVER want to see us this sad--they would say "MOM--wake up--live for yourself--I LOVE YOU and dont cry"I am sure your daughter would not want you suffering as my son would not.THEY LOVED LIFE!!!That is what keeps me going --they LOVED US!!!We will unite with our "BABIES" again--keep that faith--it holds me .

While I am not sure if your Mom is supposed to add a note I felt the need to do so.

I was so blessed to have you in my life even if only for 26 years. I NEED to remember this when I get sad, depressed, angry, and when I question my desire to go on. Memories and emotions have swirled around me the last 4 weeks. Memories from the depth of my love for you to a pain and sadness that I could not have imagined a person could survive.

I remember having to get up at night to rock you to sleep while I was still pregnant with you. You were such a happy child, yet so inquisitive and independent. The fire dept and poison control can attest to this.

Your love of writing started well before you went to school. It started with an obsession to write and color on walls. For this I put up paper on the hallway wall. You would write "notes" by coloring pictures on that paper.

I felt you had a special link or bond to God when you used to talk to him. I hope He is as proud of the person you became as I am.

I will miss your laugh and the many times we shared a situation which would make us laugh without holding anything back. Many of those times we were the only ones to really get it. You could make a trip to the store or the Greek restaurant an exciting adventure.

I loved your intelligence and the fact that you could say something completely dingy, and then laugh at yourself.

When it came to your time and money you were so selfless. You gave so much of yourself. Sometimes it disappointed you that we couldn't live up to your level of selflessness. Your desire and ability to buy gifts for people that were so perfect for them was amazing. You truly enjoyed giving to others and the happiness it brought them.

None of us is perfect. In talking to someone about joining a bereavement group for parents who have lost children, I said I much preferred to join a group to complain that you were still smoking, still cussing and the fact that I thought you should cut down on your beer. I remember being frustrated when you cussed a lot and would end the conversation. What I wouldn't give to have the chance to finish those conversations.

For a time you lost a part of yourself or maybe lost sight of the reason why you wanted to do things, but I loved being a part of your life as you grew, to watch you trying and struggling to become a better version of yourself. I loved that you would call me to ask me if you over reacted, or if you were being too sensitive...I miss that we were honest with each other about our faults and helped each other be a better person.

You were coming into your own. You were realizing you were beautiful, inside and out. In the last several years you started wearing dresses and loved the way it made you feel. You started feeling comfortable in your own skin with your mole above your lips and your big, beautiful smile. Yet, you were so YOU, that you also loved wearing feet pajamas!

Many times I ask why? Why you? You had so much more to give, so many more people to touch, so much more to learn. It is so difficult not having answers.

Many of the things I love about you are what make this so much more difficult. I want to talk to you on the phone, does anyone else talk for hours and hours and still have things to say? I want to see you throw your head back and really laugh. I want to hold you, I want to tell you how much you were loved but how does one describe the depth of the love I had/have for you?

My life was completely altered on April 4, 2011, in ways that I still cannot comprehend. I hope that I can remember that my life was also altered on September 6, 1984 in ways that I could not have begun to comprehend. As hard and painful as this is, it is worth going through because I had YOU. I was blessed, we all were. I just wish you would have been allowed more time.

Thank you Michelle. I am a better person because you were in my life. The world was a better place when you were in it.

Michelle, my daughter, my friend, I will always love you and miss you more than anyone will ever know.

Our hearts broke when we saw your beautiful, Anne Michelle's, obituary. You are in our thoughts & in our prayers. We are in a group called, The Compassionate Friends, it is for families to offer friendship, understanding and hope to them in their bereavement. May your memories and wonderful pictures keep Michelle vivid in your heart and thoughts. Although I was never able to spend the amount of time with Michelle that I would have liked, she was unforgettable.  With her sense of humor, her kindness and her intelligence, Michelle made me feel instantly like a friend as well as a cousin. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. I remember well when Michelle was born. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay with Michael while you and John were in the hospital with Michelle. Those first few years I was a part of your family. I don't even know why I paid rent elsewhere, I was at your house all the time! But I loved the feel of your family and wanted to be part of it. When you began to move from place to place we drifted apart but I've always felt you four were my family too. 

I feel sad that this horrible thing has happened. Listening to you speak about her at the memorial I realized that so many of the qualities that made her such a stand out she learned from you. What wonderful women- both named Anne Michelle.

Michelle, I only knew you through your wonderful mother. I have a daughter that is not much younger than you and I see the similarities and how I could never understand why an all loving god would want to take you away. I hope there is a purpose but it will take some time to understand how someone as wonderful as you got taken from us at such an early age. God bless you and your family and I hope the answers will be answered.

Some memories of Michelle:
 
I recall when several of us were watching Michael play baseball when he was in grade school.  And Michelle was there - she was just a little tyke.  One of the other mothers watching the game was talking with Anne and asked her if her mother was married.  Anne answered no.  However, Michelle was standing there and quite emphatically said "Yes she is!  Don't you remember?  Grandma and E got married in Washington, D.C.!"  I loved that little girl so much and loved her more and more as she grew into a wonderful woman.  She always considered me as one of her Grandmas just as I considered her my precious Granddaughter.
 
Then there was the time when Mariel and I noticed an odor in the kitchen.  Well, it turned out that Mariel had given Michelle and her cousin a banana a few days before and they hid it in a cupboard.  When asked later why they did it, they said that the banana was too ripe to eat but they didn't want to give it back to Mariel because it would hurt her feelings.  Michelle was always so thoughtful, even as a child.
 
I will miss Michelle so much.  She always brought joy into my life, whether it was the times when we were together or the times we e-mailed or talked on the phone.  Michelle was so thoughtful, interesting, and had such a talent for expressing herself - whether it be orally or written.  She was beautiful - both inside and out.  And I know Mariel loved her so much and thought the world of her.  When Michelle lived in Carmel and Mariel was in the nursing home in Indy, Michelle would spend time with Mariel which meant so much to Mariel.  And for that, I will always be grateful.
 
Though the tears are flowing, I feel so blessed to have had Michelle in my life.  I know some day we will see each other again and hug and kiss each other.

 I've spent these weeks struggling with denial as I keep trying to wake up from the awful dream of losing you. You not only gave me your friendship, your loyalty, and your time. But you allowed me the gracious gift to be close to you in a way that few people had ever been. We faced each other at our best and our worst for close to a decade. The bond we shared was complicated and simply brilliant at the same time. We've seen trying days and always got through them together. There was never a doubt as to whether you'd be there for me at a moments notice.

The reverence you held for those who mattered in your life was uncanny. Your selfless nature was a beacon in my life. No material possessions, and no amount of money, would ever have changed your devotion to the people you chose to keep close.  

You were the epitome of potential and you know that's why I always pushed you so hard to finish school. Only a woman like you, could go from working as a cashier to being the General Manager of a restaurant chain inside of Yankee Stadium just like that. Every boss you've ever had, and every teacher or professor who has ever known you saw what I had the privelege of seeing. You were destined for greatness. 

I am so proud of you and I never told you that enough. It's not every day a sophmore is asked to coauthor psychology papers with their professor. You've so much grace and insight it's no wonder you saw so clearly into the human condition. Whenever I found myself mentioning you in conversation, I couldn't help but brag. I've often told the story of when you were given the Governor's award at Rhodes. You simply hated all the attention it brought. You wanted to do things to help and change people's lives and then walk away without a shred of recognition. That was just your way. I had to beg you to go to a ceremony that was meant to honor you. We spent 2 hours on the phone the night before the ceremony. I've never had to work so hard to convince someone to accept recognition for good works. 

I knew that you had so much to offer the world that you must have been bursting to let it out. You changed this place for the better no matter what you were doing with your life. It wasn't until I lost you that I realized what was right in front of me the whole time.

You were fulfilling your purpose every day you had on this earth. The impact you had on my life and every one who has ever known and loved you is proof of that. Your life was a gift to this world.  To those who were fortunate enough to share in it, I can't imagine a more life altering person to have known. I truly see your greatness Michelle, it was there every day I had you in my life. 

You were my best friend and so much more. I love you more than words can express, I miss you more than you'll ever know, and I thank you for every inch of the beautiful person you are.

I will always remember Michelle as a caring and giving person. She assisted me so much when I purchased my first home in Columbus, Ohio by organizing everything.  She lightened my load by taking on these tasks. She did even the small things in an excellent manner. She had such a compassionate spirit for others. 
I will never forget her infectious smile, her heart of gold and her enthusiasm.  My deepest prayers and sympathy go out to her Mom, Dad, brother, and extended family members.  I will continue to pray for you all daily and ask that God give you strength, faith, and courage during this challenging time.

Although I never had the honor of meeting Michelle, I can see through the pictures and through the stories that Michelle was truly an amazing person! Her love of her life is reflected in her smile and the impact she made on others. She has given so many so much!!

Though I didn't get to spend alot of time with Michelle, she always made me feel like we had just seen each other when we got together.  What an amazing spirit!  I greatly admire how fiercely she loved her life and her family.  She will be sorely missed.  Love you Michelle!

We met for the first time in the small town of Waterloo Ohio, when I came to visit your mom.  Through the friendship with your mom, I had the great pleasure of getting to know two more remarkable individuals, both you and Michael.  Your brilliant smile and fun-loving personality stood out from most kids.  You were so much fun to watch and talk with, as you had such a bold charismatic style about you.  You were like nothing I had ever experienced for a girl your age.  You were ready to take on the world, and mold it into your own universe, with heart of gold and an angel’s touch.  Absolutely fearless… with a tenacious “I can do anything” attitude!  God definitely made someone very special when he made you.  

No surprise to anyone, when someone was in need, you appeared out of the shadows of despair.   In such a circumstance, I was in need of temporary housing for my surprise litter of kittens, and there you were… right by my side begging your mom to be that home.  You took on the challenge, and took on a few pets too through the process.  You soon were out knocking on your neighbors doors looking for adoptees of the little ones.   Who could resist that loving smile and soft cheerful voice asking for neighbors and friends to help save a life and give a home!  I knew right then and there, not only should a marketing team hire you immediately, but the love you shared was so special, it spread like wild fire….just look all around you now.

Michelle, I’m so sorry that I cannot be there in person to celebrate your life with your family and friends, but please know, I am there in my heart.  Thank you so much for what you have brought to this world.  You are such a beautiful example of what we should all strive to have…selfless love, open arms and a bright spirit to help those around us.  The world is a better place because you were here.  Thank you.   You will be greatly missed, but we will see you again soon.
