

CHARLOTTE A. EDWARDS, 80, of Fort Wayne, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at her residence. Born June 12, 1932, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late Francis Bennett and Esther Bennett Pohr. She graduated from Central High School in 1950. She was a certified medical assistant and volunteered at the American Red Cross for many years. She had been a 4-H leader for 8 years; involved with the Central High School Reunion Committee; helped set up shelters, helped get food and took applications for flood victims in Ft. Wayne, Chicago and Houston and the San Francisco earthquakes for the Red Cross. She drove for JJR Services here in Ft. Wayne, ran Drive-In Theaters and had worked at Warner Gear as a blue print operator. She had also been a Deaconess at her church and taught Home Economics at the Allen County Extension. Surviving are her daughters, Nancy (Albert) Deininger, Sharon (Jerry) Smith, Denise (Gene) Keller, and Amy Edwards; son, Steven (Nancy) Edwards; daughter-in-law, Cathy Edwards; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Lee and Norma (Louie) Imbody; and brother, Bret (Beth) Pohr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George J. Edwards, in 2003; and son, George M. Edwards, in 2012. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Rick Hawks officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the funeral home, with a Star of the East Chapter 514 O.E.S. service at 7:30 p.m. Entombment in Highland Park Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Heartland Hospice.
