
Darlene Sue Noble, nee Etter, 72, of New Haven, Indiana, died on November 20,2023. Darlene was born on October 9, 1951 to Donald and Ruthann (Karbach) Etterin Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Darlene graduated from East Noble High School in 1969.She married William Edward Noble on July 31, 1970, and continued working toward her Associate’s degree in nursing at Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne.This was the beginning of a 40-year career in nursing. Darlene started at Parkview Labor and Delivery in 1970, and moved to Ft. Wayne Obstetrics-Gynecology in 1975. In 1980, Darlene went back to school to finish her bachelor’s degree, then continued on to receive her master’s degree in nursing in 1988. She attended St. Francis College in Ft. Wayne for her undergraduate work, and completed her master’s degree at Indiana University in Indianapolis. Darlene loved learning and was a passionate advocate for the value of education at every stage of life. Darlene had two children, Abigail and Andrea. After her divorce in 1990, she raised her girls on her own. Her courage and determination to give her children the best life she could continue to inspire her daughters and their children.Darlene began teaching nursing at local colleges in 2008, and finished her career as a hospice nurse with Family Hospice and Palliative Care in Berne, Indiana. Darlene loved her family above all else. She was a caretaker, a no-nonsense woman with a huge heart who gave her time and practical support to many. She was devoted to her own mother, loved crafting cards with her sisters, and was always available to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She adored giving presents and helping others. She was stubborn, independent, and proud of what she had accomplished. She was a fierce advocate for her patients and her family. She never took the easy road, and sometimes burned bridges in speaking her mind, but she was a woman who made a huge and positive difference in the lives of many people. She will be dearly missed. Darlene spent the last year of her life at Lutheran Life Village, where she received wonderful care with the support of Parkview Home Health and Hospice. Darlene died with her daughters holding her hands, and on her own terms, as she had lived. Darlene was predeceased by her father, Donald C. Etter, brother, David Etter, and nephew Tyler Etter. She is survived by her mother, Ruthann, sisters Joyce Etter and Lois Newport, brother Richard Etter, many nieces and nephews, beloved grand-nephew Chandler Adam, daughters Abigail Diehl-Noble and Andrea Kendall, and grandchildren Benedict, Flora, Simon, and Jack. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
