Dorothy A. Klug, a registered nurse and the wife of a Lutheran theologian, died May 22 in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was 87.
Mrs. Klug was born in Milwaukee, Wis., the eldest of five children of Otto and Anna (Abuya) Bauch. After graduating with an R.N. degree from Milwaukee Lutheran Hospital, in 1946 she married the Rev. Dr. Eugene F. Klug, a professor of theology who preceded her in death eight years ago.
Their life in the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod led them to ministries at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; Trinity Lutheran Church in Kalispell, Mont.; the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; and Concordia Theological Seminary, initially located in Springfield, Ill., and subsequently Fort Wayne, Ind. Mrs. Klug was an active member of the Concordia Theological Seminary Guild.
Mrs. Klug worked as a registered nurse for internal medicine practices and the American Red Cross in Illinois and Indiana. She also served in the Medical Personnel Pool in Fort Wayne and Allen Home Health Care, from which she retired in 1992 as assistant director of nursing after 11 years.
Mrs. Klug was a lifelong traveler, often accompanying her husband to theological conferences. In recent decades, they spent summers near Glacier National Park, the inspiration for family reunions and her legendary huckleberry jam. Demonstrating her zest for special occasions, during the past year she made solo trips to Montana, Wyoming and Michigan.
She is survived by four children: Charlotte Chung, Flora, Ill.; Christine Paul, South Hampton, N.H.; Paul Klug, Kalispell, Mont.; the Rev. Timothy Klug, Casper, Wy.; also eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be sent to Concordia Theological Seminary through the Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled Friday, May 27, 9:30 a.m., at the chapel located at Lutheran Life Villages, 6701 South Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Milwaukee.
