

REV. FRED LEROY LEIGHTY, 62, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Kansas City, KS, Fred was an ordained minister for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He served churches in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Iowa. Between dancing with his wife in their house, serving “Papa’s Pancakes”, and telling stories to his grandkids, Fred loved spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Debra Marlys Kay (Hendrickson) Leighty of Fort Wayne; daughter, Nancy (James) DeFrain of Fort Wayne; son Matthew (Kelli) Leighty of Fort Wayne; brother, Clarence (Mary) Leighty of Guthrie Center, IA; grandchildren, Hannah DeFrain, Ian, Reagan, Addison Leighty; two uncles; one aunt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Thelma Leighty. Funeral service is 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, at Faith Lutheran Church, 9251 E State Road 205, Churubusco, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Lane Burgland and Rev. Edward Hosch officiating. Calling is also from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 20, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to Worship for Shut-Ins, Faith Lutheran Church in Churubusco, or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
