Helen Rose Smith, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at her home with family by her side. Born February, 17, 1941 in Waltham, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Campbell) Grimes. A graduate of Waltham High School, she excelled at bookkeeping and accounting. A kind-hearted and compassionate woman, she was a wonderful homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, and taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward Smith of Fort Wayne; children, Edward (Amy) Smith Jr. of Fort Wayne, James (Kathleen) Smith of Roscoe, Ill., Brian “Joe” (Sallie) Smith of Highland, Theresa (Tony) Distelrath of Indianapolis, and Charles (Tiffany) Smith of Fort Wayne; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Ann) Grimes of Orlando, Fla., Rosemary Chiasson of Wareham, Mass., and Ann (James) Jenkins of Milford, Mass. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Roseanne Smith; and sisters, Patricia McDonnell and Kathleen Grimes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4643 Gaywood Dr., Fort Wayne. Father Mark Wojdelski officiating. Calling will be from 6-8pm on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with a Rosary Service beginning at 6pm. Burial at Catholic Cemetery.
