

Lewis E. Powell, 84, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Born in New Castle, Indiana, Lewis was raised in Milton, where he was shaped by the values of faith, hard work, and service—principles that guided him throughout his life. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Lewis served his country with honor before returning home to build a life devoted to family and community. He worked for 23 years in inventory control at Fruehauf Trailer, and later in customer service at KT Industries until his retirement. Known for his diligence and kindness, Lewis left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Lewis was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church and later attended Brookside Church. His faith was a steady presence in his life and was evident in his quiet generosity, unwavering loyalty, and deep compassion. He was a true friend—always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Naomi (Onstott) Powell, and his brothers, Charles, Bill, George, and Junior. Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathryn Powell; his son, Matthew Powell of Washington, D.C.; his daughter, Sarah (Steve) Wurster of Delaware, Ohio; and his treasured grandchildren, Kaela, Abby, and Landon Wurster. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed by his gentle spirit and steadfast love. Lewis found joy in lifeʼs simple pleasures—playing volleyball, softball, and cards; tinkering in the garage; and working on projects with friends. He will be remembered for his easy going nature, quiet strength, and the deep love he shared with all who knew him. A memorial service celebrating Lewisʼs life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the funeral home. Following the services, burial will take Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
