

She was born on October 4, 1925, in Woodburn, Indiana, to William and Wilhelmina (née Werling) Kammeyer. Mardella was baptized on October 25, 1925, at Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn, with Louise Rekeweg and Paula Webbeking serving as her godparents. She was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 2, 1939, at Christ Lutheran Church, where her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:5: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”
Mardella attended Christ Lutheran School for her elementary education and graduated from Woodburn High School. On September 25, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wayne John Gerbers at Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn. He preceded her in death.
A faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Mardella lived a life rooted in her faith, family, and community.
In Mardella's spare time, she enjoyed traveling all over the world.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Arnold Kammeyer, and her sister, Amanda Kammeyer Hartman.
Mardella is survived by her loving children: Carol (John) Marks of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Ronald (Joanne) Gerbers of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Shirley (Bruce) Williams of Wooster, Ohio. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 11, 2026, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with calling one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 10, 2026, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery Gardens in Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Concordia Lutheran High School, Worship Anew, or the Lutheran Life Villages Chapel Fund.
