

Margaret W. Gallatin, 92, of Fort Wayne died on November 27, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Fort Wayne. Born on November 7, 1922, in Wabash, she was a daughter of the late Alvah T. and Eva M. (Adams) Watson. Margaret was a graduate of Wabash High School and was the Student Council President. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Purdue University in 1940, and she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Margaret received a Master of Science in Education from St. Francis College in 1971. Upon graduation from Purdue she taught at Chester Township High School in North Manchester before moving to Fort Wayne in 1944. She then worked in the chemical lab at Bowser’s, and she was a dietician at the county home and the Fort Wayne Children’s Home. From 1954 to 1985 she worked for Purdue University Co-operative Extension Service as a home demonstration and consumer agent. In 1979 she was awarded the Extension Home Economic Achievement Award Superior Division given by the Purdue University Co-operative Extension Specialist Association. Margaret was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta Alumni, Tri Kappa, Altrusa, Purdue Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Settlers, Epsilon Sigma Pi (Purdue Co-operative Extension Service Honorary), the Botanical Conservatory and the Fort Wayne Herb Gardeners Club. She is survived by her daughters, Ann E. (Robert) Yager and Marilyn K. Gallatin; granddaughters, Susan (Richard) Kapff and Karen (Marc) Albrecht; and great-grandchildren, Janelle, Adam, Caroline and Cora Albrecht. Graveside service will be 11am Monday December 1, at Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Calling will be held from 3 to 7pm Sunday November 30, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to the Botanical Conservatory or Visiting Nurse of Fort Wayne. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Miller’s Merry Manor of Fort Wayne for the exceptional care they gave, especially from Anna and Brooke.
