Marie Ellen Penix Barkley

Marie E. Barkley, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born September 14, 1926 in Brighton, MI., she was a daughter of the late Vern and Esther (Oberla) Penix. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1944. In 1948, she married the late Earl W. Householder. On May 19, 2001, she married Harold F. Barkley. Marie was employed by Fort Wayne Community School system for many years. She was also a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church for 54 years. She loved her granddaughters and enjoyed cooking and working in her flower garden. She is survived by her husband, Harold F. Barkley of Fort Wayne; son, Gregory C. (Clare) Householder of Roanoke, Ind.; stepson, Thomas (Julie) Barkley of Fort Wayne; three granddaughters, Natalie and Amanda Householder and Meg Barkley; brother, Rolland (Betty) Penix of West Lafayette, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Leo Penix; and stepson, Scott Barkley. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior; Pastor Nathan Whybrew officiating. Calling will also be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road., Fort Wayne. Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Ind. Memorials may be made to the church or to Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
