July 19, 1924 – December 1, 2015
Marge was an enthusiastic traveler, whether single, married, or widowed. Prior to her marriage, she traveled to Europe via ocean liner and to Cuba with her childhood friend, Audrey, during the Batista regime. With Harold, her husband, she traveled to Russia, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Eritrea, and all fifty states. After Harold’s death, she continued her adventures to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Fiji and the Bahamas, where she joined daughter Barbara and her husband Al on their sailboat and snorkeled on tropical reefs into her 80's. She was President of the Concordia Gardens Community Association for many years and coordinated many improvements, including annexation into the city of Ft. Wayne. She was cited by Mayor Thomas C. Henry for her selfless service to the city. She worked at Concordia Lutheran High School as Secretary to the Guidance Counselor, Carl Gallmeier from 1976 until her retirement in 1987.
She was a positive, generous soul and was always up for fun, be it a board game, pool, shuffle board, charades, roller coaster rides or cards. One morning, we woke up to find we had been “TeePeed” by high school students at Concordia, and she was thrilled, going outside immediately to take pictures of the floating white strands. She retained her flawless spelling even into the late stages of her Alzheimer’s. She was famous for saying, “I can’t complain at all.”
She lived a full adventurous life and loved her husband and children with her whole heart. She leaves a sister-in-law Norma Mann of Muskego, WI, and brother-in-law Alfred Buls and his wife Velma of Baltimore, four children; Jonathan H. Buls of Phoenix, AZ, David F. Buls of Garrett, IN, Barbara Buls Boudreau of Gloucester, MA and her husband Alvin (her “favorite son-in-law!”), Fredrik J. Buls of Atlanta, GA and his wife Cecile (Smith), many step children, -grand children, -great-grand children, one -great-great-grand daughter, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by 3 brothers, Everett Brooks (Chick) Mann of New Port Richey, FL, Robert William Mann of Riverside, CA and their wives (Marie and Ginger, respectively), Edwin Perry Mann of Muskego, WI and her husband of 41 years, the Reverend Doctor Harold H. Buls of Ft. Wayne, IN. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1126 Barr Street, Fort Wayne, on Saturday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, followed by a graveside ceremony. Visiting hours will be at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne on Friday, December 4 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Student Aid Fund at Concordia Theological Seminary of Ft. Wayne, IN or Harbour Assisted Living of Fort Wayne Memory Care Unit.
