Richard H. Yergens

RICHARD H. YERGENS, 87, of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at his residence. Born Sept. 19, 1923, in Fort Wayne, he graduated from South Side High School in 1941. He was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as a insurance agent from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. after 31 years. He continued as a insurance agent with Blue Cross-Blue Shield until 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post 47. He was an avid Cubs and IU basketball fan, and also enjoyed playing golf. Surviving are his wife of 63 1/2 years, Doris M.; daughters, Linda L. (Dr. Craig) Nelson and Shirley A. (Ed) Walker, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Shannon Feigel and Rick Walker; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Feigel. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Emily E. Walker; and brother, Jack Yergens. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1505 Bethany Lane, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Debra Meuter officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Preferred memorials to the church or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
