

Robert “Bob” L. Leitel, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Born November 29, 1926 in Oak Park, Ill., he was a son of the late Sylvester and Helen (Bauer) Leitel. He attended elementary school at Mary Queen of Heaven, Cicero, Ill., and high school at Christian Brothers St. Mel, Chicago, Ill. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army for nearly two years in the Philippines during WWII. He was employed with Navistar for 41 years, having worked in Illinois, Kansas and Fort Wayne, from which he retired in 1986. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. Bob had a unique sense of humor and a quick retort on many subjects that will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Donald, Joseph, Robert (Kristin), and Jeffrey (Jenny); daughter, Liz; grandchildren, Heather, Rachel, Faith, and Isak; and great-granddaughters, Audree and Averie Rose. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Francella, in December of 2015; brother, Donald (Barbara); sister, Dorothy (Kenneth) Niesman; and brother-in-law and wife, Edward (Marcia) Kresl. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be from 4-7pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
