

RUTH N. LEWIS, 84, was called home on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, Fort Wayne. Born on the family farm in Ridgeway, N.C. on Sept. 23, 1931, she attended Woman's College, UNC at Greensboro. In 1952, she and sister, Beth, traveled Europe visiting family - a trip fondly remembered. In 1955, she married Tom and moved to Indiana. Ruth was a loving mother and homemaker, later working at the family business, Lewis and Christen in Fort Wayne. She volunteered with LWML, Valparaiso Univ. Guild, and Girl Scouts. Later, she sold Real Estate in Pine Island and Yalaha, Fla., and served on the board at Waterwood. In summer, she worked at Peace Luth. Church, Fremont. Ruth was a strong Christian and was active at church, singing in the choir, playing bells, and volunteering. Ruth taught German, was an excellent cook, enjoyed the piano, gardening, and golf. She treasured her grandchildren, many dear friends, beloved bridge club, and Amish friends. She had an amazing memory that was captured in her memoir. Ruth is survived by her sisters Helen and Elizabeth (Isaac); four children, Martin (Diane), Karla (Michael), Krista (Fritz), and Marcus (Mariana); and eight grandchildren, Kirsten, Michaela, Broderick, Johanna, Anneliese, Fritz Thomas, Katharina, and Madison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas L. Lewis; parents, Louise and Conrad; brother, Harold; and sister, Lee.
