

Shelby Carriel Vinson (83) went home to be with his heavenly Father on August 8, 2024. He was born in Swifton, Arkansas, on August 7, 1941 to Albert and Almalene Vinson. Shelby served in the Army as a Military Police Officer from 1966 to 1968 at Fort George Meade, Maryland. Shelby received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman Badge Rifle M-14. He married Elizabeth Finley on March 19, 1966. They were married 56 years before his wife Elizabeth passed away on August 16th, 2022. Shelby enjoyed having a good time with friends and family. He had a funny sense of humor, infectious smile and laugh. He enjoyed playing Password and Trivial Pursuit during family gatherings. He loved going to his grandson’s sporting events and cheering them on. He took great pride in his work as a Branch Manager for U.S. Security Associates for over 30 years. He was a natural born leader and was not afraid to say what was on his mind. He also enjoyed watching his favorite teams Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts, and IU Basketball. Shelby was a loving caretaker of his wife Elizabeth for over 8 years before her passing. Shelby will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Shelby leaves behind 3 children and 2 step-children. Robin Vinson of The Woodlands, TX, Christopher (Andrea) Vinson of Fort Wayne, IN, Elaine (Randy) Cameron of Fort Wayne, IN, Jay (Renee) Grider of Fort Wayne, IN, and Rhonda (Scott) Lahr of New Haven IN, along with 23 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Showing and funeral services will be held at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home on Friday, August 16th, 2024. A private family showing will be held from 10 am to 11 am. Public showing will be held from 11 am to 1:00 pm, with funeral following. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
