

Vada “Kitty” (Roberts) McCormick, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 27, 2022. Born on July 29, 1922 in Goshen, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Emery E. and Bessie B. (Hale) Roberts. Kitty grew up in Eldon, Iowa and graduated from Eldon High School. She married Master Sergeant W.G. McCormick at Fort George G. Mead, Maryland on September 10, 1942. Kitty then spent the next 26 years as an Army wife and mother of two girls, often following her husband to various military bases, both foreign and state-side. The McCormick home always had an open door policy for all friends and family, and was always full of food, laughter, and good times. Kitty leaves behind a daughter, Patty (John) Fiedler of Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, her daughter, Sharon Southard, formerly of Milton, Florida; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Fiedler; a great-grandson, TSg Gage Southard, formerly of Berrydale, Florida; her parents; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers. A funeral service for Kitty will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835. Entombment at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, will occur at the conclusion of the funeral service. Memorials can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, the Disabled American Veterans Organization, or to Elara Caring Hospice in Vada’s name.
