Delmar Q. Burkepile

Delmar Q. Burkepile, age 80, passed away peacefully in his home in Security on April 5, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Delmar was born March 15, 1933 in Colorado Springs, CO to Tollie and Edna Burkepile. Family was very important to Delmar.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Burkepile; daughters, Debra (Don) Beckett, and Cheryl (Gary) Poole; grandchildren Brandon (Julie) Gostnell, and Christina (Eugene) Wengerd; four great-grandchildren, Zach and Zoe Gostnell and Issac and Jayden Wengerd; a brother Robert (Gladys) Burkepile, as well as nieces and nephews.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Brough Taggart; a sister, Colleen Cassat; a brother, John Taggart; and a nephew, Michael Burkepile.

Delmar met his wife Patricia, while both were students at Manitou Springs H.S., and married her on November 25, 1953. They recently shared their 59th wedding anniversary. Delmar shared his love of cars and racing with his daughter, Debbie. One of the highlights of his life was when Debbie made it possible for him to take a ride along in a real race car through the Richard Petty Driving Experience. He was a very social man. Delmar belonged to the Fountain Valley Masonic Lodge #191, and was Past Master in 1981. He was a shriner in the Al Kaly Shrine since 1982. Delmar was the President of the Kalyvairs unit of the Al Kaly Shriners and drove the 1964 Corvair he owned in parades and other events. He also belonged to the Southern Colorado Consistory. Delmar was blessed to be cared for in his home the last five years by his loving family and many wonderful caregivers, as well as Pikes Peak Hospice.

The Visitation will be held at Dove-Witt Mortuary, 6630 S. Hwy 85 on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Pikes Peak Christian Church, 4955 Bradley Rd., Security, CO at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs, CO.
