Most often referred to as "Aunt Betty," "Meemaw," or "Mom." Mom's most memorable quote was "If you don't eat your dessert first, you're not living." She spent her life caring for others. She took an early retirement to care for her elderly mother so she could remain living independently. She raised 6 children as a single mother in a time where that was incredibly difficult and uncommon. She was a survivor of abuse, the Great Depression (during this time she lived in an orphanage), and the passing of three of her children; these things made her the strong and robust woman that she was until she rose to Heaven.
Elizabeth is the matriarch of this family and the beacon of our lives. She showed us all that family and God are to come first above self. Generosity and care were virtues that she embodied every day until her last breath. She instilled and shared these values with everyone that she encountered.
She showed great courage, whit, sharpness, spunk and dignity until the very end. One of the most painful deaths is COPD, despite that, Mom continued to care for herself and others more than we ever did her.
A woman of deep faith and wisdom, she found great joy in reading the Bible and sharing its lessons with children. She was an avid reader and storyteller who could captivate listeners with her tales. She also had a passion for Western films and spent countless hours enjoying their timeless stories. In quieter moments, she indulged in her love for Spider Solitaire, playing with an enthusiasm that became legendary among those who knew her.
Betty dedicated much of her professional life to civil service at Fort Knox, Kentucky. She also worked as a Key Punch Operator Supervisor for General Electric, playing a vital role in the early days of computing and data processing.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother Frank Walker; her children Susan Salinas (Albin), Todd Albin, and Adonica "Kelly" Gosman (Albin); as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her grandchildren include Monica Watson (Laslie), Melanie Garrity (Laslie), Troy Albin, Jessica Albin, Christopher Sowder, Michael Sowder, Stacy Ming (Salinas), Rebecca Henderson (Salinas), Derek Albin, Justin Albin, Mitchell Albin, Carmyn Albin, Leah Rodriguez (Gosman), Nathan Gosman, and Seth Gosman.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her children Robert Albin, Beverly Curd (Albin), and John Douglas Albin; her grandson Jacob Salinas; her granddaughter Kristin Albin; her great-grandson Jacob Sowder; and several siblings: John Douglas Walker, Huston Walker, Timothy Hagemann, Donald Bowman, Chester Walker, Elvira Kilgore (Walker), Sylvia Asher (Adkins), and Sue Myers (Adkins). She was also predeceased by her beloved pet "Baby."
In accordance with Betty's wishes, no memorial service will be held. Her memory will live on through the stories she shared and the lessons she imparted to those around her.
It was her final wish that everyone knows how proud she was of them and that they all know that she is at peace and able to, once again, see those that she had loved and lost. She is now with her Heavenly Father and "eating her dessert first."
