

F. Marilyn Millar passed away of complications from Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 81 on September 9, 2012. She was born on July 6, 1931 in Greeley, Colorado to Gerald Rice and Cora O’Neal. In 1949 she graduated from Sterling High School, and went on to get a teaching certificate at Chadron Teacher’s College in Nebraska. On December 21, 1952 she married John C. Millar in Sterling, Colorado. The couple moved to Security in 1962 where John became the principal at Talbott Elementary. Marilyn taught at Venetucci Elementary (formerly known as South Elementary) for a few years before concentrating on being a homemaker and piano teacher. They lived on McBurney Blvd. for over 30 years.
Marilyn was very involved in Good Shepherd Church as a church pianist and organist. She was active in the United Methodist Women and the Deborah Circle. For the past 8 years she was a resident of Cedarwood Health Care Center on Kiowa.
She is survived by her sister Margaret Thorpe, her daughters Mary Lynne Ketcham, Gail Farrell, Jeanette Millar, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Millar, her sister Norma Renquist, brother Robert Rice and her sons Gerald H. Millar and James E. Millar and her brother Robert Rice.
Visitation will be held at Dove Witt Family Mortuary 6630 US Highway 85/87 Fountain, on Wednesday September 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On September 13 a private burial service will be at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held September 13, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Security. A reception will follow the service in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Mc Curdy Mission School in care of Good Shepherd Church.
