Jackie L. Jacoby departed for his eternal heavenly home on 18 November 2021 after 86 amazing years given by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his infant son Dean, his parents, Clyle and Harriet Jacoby, his first wife and mother to all his children, Olive Ann. Jack leaves behind his loving wife Helene, his only sibling and sister, Janice Jenkins, his four children Dayne Jacoby (Debbie), Timothy Jacoby (Lois), Patience Easterbrook (Kevin), Rebecca Jackson (James), step daughter Ilona Mahria, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Despite being born April 1, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan, Jack was nobody’s fool. He excelled at Battle Creek schools and was the first in his immediate family to go to college. He married Olive A. Klein in 1955 while attending Michigan State. After getting his bachelor’s degree, Jack entered the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant in 1957. He was blessed to fly numerous aircraft throughout his career including the T-28, T-33, T-37, T-38, F-100 and F-5. Jack thoroughly enjoyed flying and instructing in airplanes and he did a lot of it during his one year of service in Vietnam flying the F-5. In addition to all the military training throughout his career, he made time to obtain a master’s degree in mathematics.
After moving the family around from Florida to Oklahoma to Nevada, Japan and Arizona, Oregon, Alabama and California Jack retired in 1977 at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi as a Lieutenant Colonel and moved to Colorado Springs to settle. As a loyal friend and family man, Jack traveled often to see friends and family. He stayed in touch with many former neighbors and work colleagues through Christmas letters for more than 40 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Jack fell in love with the beautiful state of Colorado. He played a lot of golf, sold real estate, enjoyed hunting, hiking, camping, and fishing. Jack also helped his wife start a tax and accounting plan business. As his passion for the Lord grew, he enjoyed men’s bible studies, helped with youth ministries, and went on church mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
After his wife Olive passed away in 1989, Jack became more of a spiritual mentor for his grown children and later volunteered to drive for Silver Key to transport homebound seniors to appointments in Colorado Springs. In God’s providence, Jack met Helene Toth when he picked her up for scheduled transportation by Silver Key. It was a match made in heaven and they married in 2012 and enjoyed 9 wonderful years together.
A celebration of Jack’s life is scheduled at 10 a.m. on 8 December at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. U.S. Hwy 85 87, Fountain, CO 80817. If you wish to attend virtually, please use the Zoom link below. Jack will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery during a family-only service later that day. Expressions of sympathy, in Jack’s name, can be made to one of the following charities in honor of Jack Jacoby: Radiant Church of Colorado Springs, Trinity United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs, Hillsdale College, American Family Association or Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation.
