James Albert Sikes Sr.” Big Jim”, loving husband, extraordinary father and an amazing grandfather as well as great grandfather, passed away April 19, 2021 in Colorado Springs, CO. James was born in Winnsboro, Louisiana, June 17, 1937, to Monroe and Thelma Sikes.
James joined the United States Army and proudly served 27 years to his country. He did several tours in Vietnam and retired with honors. After retirement he chose to start his own business, A-A Towing. James was a very active member of the Fountain community. He served many years on the Fountain Sanitation Board and took great pride in doing so. Most Saturday nights James could be found at the local racetracks supporting his thrill of the sport and encouraging that of his son, James Sikes, Jr. Being the head chef at family BBQs was his trademark with his “special” sauce that you could only get in Louisiana. Most questions asked of James were met with not an actual answer, just a “could be”.
Family was very important to James. He and Martha took many trips and went on some wild adventures after retirement from the Army. However, his grandchildren were his world.
James leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Martha Faye Sikes. Children Linda (Ron) Chalou, James (Kimberly) Sikes, Jr., grandchildren and great grandchildren, Charles Jr. (Charles III), Rachael (Gavin, Owen and Brody), Dustin, John Jr., Austin and Dillon. Brothers Bobby E. Sikes and Robert E. Sikes
He was proceeded in death by daughter Sandra Socia and by a sister, Joyce Mitchell.
Services will be held at noon, Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Dove Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. Hwy 85/87, Fountain, Colorado 80817.
